About Mahjong Solitaire (MahjongBreak)
Mahjong Solitaire, also known as Shanghai, is the solo tile-matching puzzle that came with Windows for years. This version comes from MahjongBreak, an independent mahjong site. The board starts as a stacked layout of 144 tiles: characters, bamboo, circles, winds, dragons, flowers and seasons. A tile is free when nothing sits on top of it and its left or right side is open. Click two identical free tiles and they disappear. Flowers match any flower and seasons match any season.
There are three layouts, Turtle, Tower and Pyramid, switched with the buttons at the top right. Hint highlights a pair you can take, Shuffle mixes the remaining tiles when you run out of moves, and Undo takes back your last match, so a game can always be finished. Counters show how many tiles and pairs are left and how long you have been playing. There are no ads inside the game.

How to play Mahjong Solitaire (MahjongBreak)
Clear all 144 tiles by matching pairs of free tiles, with hint, shuffle and undo whenever you get stuck.
- 1Pick a layout: Turtle, Tower or Pyramid.
- 2Find two identical tiles that are free: nothing on top, and the left or right side open.
- 3Click or tap both tiles to remove the pair.
- 4Use Hint for a suggested pair, Undo to take a move back, or Shuffle when no pairs are left.
- 5Clear every tile on the board to win.
Tips and strategy
- Work on the tallest stacks and the long rows first, so more tiles open up.
- If three matching tiles are free, take the pair that frees up the most other tiles.
- When all four of one tile are free at once, clear them all: they cannot block anything.
- Free the tiles on the far ends of the long rows early.
- Flowers and seasons match any tile in their group, so they are good for opening a stuck side.
