About Freecell Classic

Freecell Classic is a browser version of FreeCell, the solitaire variant famous for a claim that no other patience game can make: nearly every deal is winnable. All fifty-two cards are dealt face up into eight columns, so nothing is hidden and nothing is left to chance. Four free cells hold single cards while you rearrange the columns, and four foundations collect each suit from Ace to King. The whole game is visible planning, which is why FreeCell attracts people who dislike the luck in Klondike.

It is well suited to the browser because a hand fits into a short break, the controls are just dragging cards, and this version runs instantly with no download. The layout follows the familiar arrangement of free cells on the left and foundations on the right, and an undo option lets you step back from a mistake instead of abandoning a deal.

Freecell Classic is for logical thinkers who enjoy seeing a solution before executing it. It suits Sudoku and Minesweeper players as much as card players, and it is a reliable choice for anyone who wants a solitaire game where winning consistently is a matter of practice rather than fortune.

How to play Freecell Classic

Sort all fifty-two face-up cards into four foundations by suit, using four free cells as temporary storage for single cards.

  1. 1Press Play to deal. Every card is face up from the start, spread across eight columns.
  2. 2Drag a card onto another column whose top card is one rank higher and the opposite color.
  3. 3Place any single card into one of the four free cells at the top left when you need to move it out of the way.
  4. 4Send Aces to the foundation piles at the top right, then build each suit upward to the King.
  5. 5Move any card into an empty column. The game is won when all four foundations hold a full suit.

Tips and strategy

  • Keep your free cells as empty as possible. Each occupied cell halves the size of the runs you can move.
  • Plan the whole sequence before your first move. With every card visible, there is no reason to guess.
  • Dig out the Aces and Twos early; they are usually buried and block everything above them.
  • An empty column is more valuable than a free cell because it can hold a whole run.
  • If you have painted yourself into a corner, undo several moves rather than starting the deal over.
