About Minesweeper Classic
Minesweeper Classic is a browser version of Minesweeper, the logic game that shipped with Windows for decades and taught a generation how to read a number grid. The rules have not changed. Mines are hidden under a field of squares, each revealed square reports how many mines touch it, and you use those counts to work out which neighbors are safe. It is a game of deduction with a small element of luck at the start and occasionally at the end, when the board leaves a fifty-fifty choice that no reasoning can resolve.
It is a good fit for the browser because it needs a mouse, a few minutes, and nothing else. This version offers several difficulty levels and keeps a timer, so you can chase faster clears on the small board or settle into a long, careful expert grid. The presentation is straightforward and legible, which matters more in Minesweeper than in almost any other game, since the entire challenge is reading small numbers correctly.
Minesweeper Classic suits anyone who enjoys Sudoku, Picross, or other pure logic puzzles, as well as people who simply want the original back after it disappeared from modern Windows. It is quiet, quick to pick up, and endlessly replayable, and it rewards patience over reflexes.

How to play Minesweeper Classic
Clear a grid of hidden mines by reading the numbers on revealed squares and deducing which neighbors are safe to click.
- 1Press Play and choose a difficulty. Larger grids hold more mines and take longer to solve.
- 2Left click any square to reveal it. Your first click is safe, and a blank square opens up its neighbors automatically.
- 3Each revealed number tells you how many mines touch that square in the eight surrounding cells.
- 4Right click (or long press on touch) to plant a flag on a square you know contains a mine.
- 5Reveal every safe square without clicking a mine to win. The timer shows your solving speed.
Tips and strategy
- Start in a corner or along an edge. Fewer neighbors mean the numbers there give more certain information.
- A 1 next to exactly one unrevealed square means that square is a mine. Look for these forced moves before guessing.
- When a square already has all its mines flagged, every other neighbor is safe. Clear them in a batch.
- Compare adjacent numbers. A 1 next to a 2 sharing several cells often pins the second mine to the non-shared cell.
- Only guess when the board is truly stuck, and prefer a guess that opens the most new information if it is right.
